The Word Became Flesh!
John's gospel tells us what Christmas is really all about! He doesn't tell us about the angels, shepherds, wise men, or the star. John's gospel tells us the Incarnation story of Christmas. The story of the infinite becoming finite, the invisible becoming visible! John tells us, “The Word became flesh." The Word of God did not just look like a human being, nor did He suddenly appear before us; He became one of us and dwelt among us. For centuries, theologians have sought to explain the mystery of the Incarnation. Yet, their best efforts can take us only so far.
Friends, we will never fully comprehend the Incarnation on this side of the veil. Why would our creator, God, humble himself and come to earth as a vulnerable baby in a stable? In simplistic terms, "the Word became flesh" out of His LOVE for us so we might come to know Him. "The Word became flesh" and dwelt among us so we could glimpse a vision of God we could grasp. God in his immeasurable, unfailing love for us, stepped out of heaven, so we might one day step into heaven for all eternity! That is the astounding Good News of God’s Love and the Incarnation. So, don't overthink it; embrace it, give thanks, and rejoice that "the Word became flesh" for our redemption!
Merry Christmas+
Fr. Greg
