Jesus Wept
The shortest verse in the Bible speaks volumes about our God. We can all relate to Martha and Mary when they said, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” We feel the hurt in their voices, and many of us have likely whispered similar pain-filled words: “Lord, if you had done something differently, I wouldn’t be experiencing this loss, this sorrow.” When the crowd saw Jesus weeping, there were two different reactions. Some said, “See how much He loved him!” while others questioned, “This man healed a blind man. Couldn’t He have kept Lazarus from dying?”
Friends, in times of tragedy, some will focus on God’s love, while others will dwell on what they believe God could or should do. This serves as a reminder for us during our sorrows. Am I concentrating on what I think God should have done differently, or am I anchored in the truth of His immense love for us? Jesus’s tears are a testament to how much God cares for us. God knows our sorrows and collects each tear we cry (Psalm 56:8). We may not always understand why God acts as He does. His ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:9). When sorrows come, let us pray for the Holy Spirit to remind us of God’s deep love for us: “See how much He loved him.” Lord, help us to always see your love through our sorrows and tears!
Onward and Upward +
