Are you in a season of discernment in your life? Are you hoping and praying for direction from God today? If so, how much time are you spending in God’s Word? God speaks to us through scripture, sermons, bible studies, and personal quiet time. These are all means the Lord uses to speak to us, strengthen us, comfort and encourage us. But God’s Word can only influence the believer who is ready to receive and respond to its message. Are you ready? Are you listening?
Friends, to get the most out of our time in God’s Word, we must first prepare our hearts and minds. We must come ready to listen with a prayerful, humble attitude. Today’s passage tells the story of young Samuel’s encounter with God. Eli, the old priest, instructed the boy to say, “Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:9). This is priceless advice for us as well. Before you open your Bible, consider praying those simple words; then ask God to help you understand His message and apply it to your life. God’s Word is a priceless gift! It provides divine direction, comforts the mourner, strengthens the weary, convicts the sinner, gives peace to the repentant, and brings joy to those who read and obey it. So, be still, listen, and let God speak into your life today.
