Dealing with Disbelief
Have you ever struggled with disbelief like the Apostle Thomas? Our doubts and disbelief often arise when our unmet expectations lead us to question God’s love and intentions. Here are some biblical principles to address doubt and disbelief. First, identify the source of your doubt. Is it rooted in the belief that God should act a certain way? Remember, God’s not a genie; His ways and thoughts are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:9). Second, share your doubts and disbeliefs with other mature Christians. Isolation can magnify negative thoughts, so engaging with believers is critical.
Friends being surrounded by mature believers provides invaluable support and encouragement when doubt and disbelief creep in. As Proverbs 27:17 reminds us, “Iron sharpens iron.” Finally, look at your doubts and disbelief as opportunities for spiritual growth. When we face occasional doubts and disbelief, they will certainly occur! Respond in a way that will stretch and strengthen your faith. We must never forget that our occasional doubts and disbelief do not diminish God’s unconditional love for us. Our loving God remains faithful despite our occasional doubts, disbeliefs, and struggles.
