Advent Hope
Webster defines hope as “to desire with expectation of obtainment or fulfillment.” Hope is a belief or expectation something will happen. When our hopes are dashed, we can experience discouragement, depression, or even despair. So, how can we remain hopeful in a world filled with disappointments? First, we must remember the source of our confidence: our relationship with Jesus. As his redeemed believers, we are reborn into a living hope through his resurrection victory. Second, it's essential to spend time in God’s Word! The Bible was written to give us encouragement and hope. If you’re looking for hope from anyone other than Jesus, you are setting yourself up for disappointment.
Friends, when the challenges and pressures of this world begin to overwhelm you and dim your hope, the Psalms are a great place to turn. They express the writers’ feelings, and they can provide comfort and hope. Never forget that our God has given us a living hope in Christ Jesus and provides us forgiveness and grace each day of our journey. As God's redeemed children, we shouldn’t react to our disappointments like the world does. We are redeemed to live lives filled with hope, peace, and joy empowered by the Holy Spirit. So, when things seem hopeless, refocus on Jesus, for he alone is our Advent hope.
Onward and Upward+
Fr. Greg
