Take Refuge and Rejoice!
The reality of life on earth can easily frustrate the joy of the godly. Fears swell up in our hearts, as we contemplate the growing uncertainties around us. This “morning prayer” psalm, provides encouragement for all who suffer adversity. David prayed this lament for himself and us, seeking God’s protection and provision “for such a time as this.” The tone is clearly one of urgency and expectation, as David declares that God surrounds the righteous with favor as a shield. Our loving God places His protective shield around us to secure His purpose in our lives. This shield is called the favor of the Lord. When we live lives that are pleasing before the Lord, He promises to shield us. That does not mean there will not be difficulties, trials, and hardships, as David was certainly no stranger to them. God’s means of protecting our destiny, places His favor over us, as we grow and live into His plan for our lives. Scripture revealed that both John the Baptist and Jesus “grew in favor with both God and man.”
Friends, as the challenges of this world continue to deceive the lost, those who walk with the Lord can lean into His timeless promise of favor and protection as faithful followers of Jesus. When the enemy seems to be gaining ground in our culture and it is harder and harder for the righteous to live in this dark age, God assures us His favor is upon us. David, Daniel, Joseph and countless other saints, known and unknown that we celebrate today, on All Saints Day, walked in God’s favor and He protected them and enabled them in the midst of their challenges. Friends, place your trust in the Lord and press into His protection and promises which are renewed with the rising sun each morning!
Grace and peace always,
Fr. Greg+
