Standing Firm On God’s Word!
Today, avoiding the distorted philosophies and world views around us is almost impossible. They are constantly before us on our televisions, the internet, our cell phones, and in our workplaces. It is increasingly difficult for believers to avoid the pressures of being and thinking like the world around us. As believers, we're called to be "in the world" but not "of the world." Today, that seems like a growing challenge, but as Scripture tells us, there is nothing new under the sun. In today's passage, Paul is speaking to Titus, who was ministering on the worldly island of Crete. Paul reveals to Titus and us the secret of remaining strong and faithful.
The Apostle Paul tells Titus to "hold firm" to God's trustworthy words of truth. He says to stand firm on God's Holy Word and develop a lifestyle of applying His principles. Friends, Scripture is our shield and sword in this world! It tells us what God thinks, how He acts, and what He expects of us. To be fortified from the world, we must carve out time daily to read, mark, and inwardly digest Holy Scripture. We must meditate on it daily to know what it means and how it applies to our lives. God's Word is most powerful and effective when believed completely and obeyed consistently. By integrating Scripture into our daily lives, we can effectively reflect the light of Christ in this dark world.
