Regenerating Rest
Today, as summer comes to a close, countless souls will seek rest through recreation and other outdoor activities. Where do you find regenerating rest from the labor and toils in your labor? Jesus says, "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." The simplicity of Jesus' promise is both intriguing and profound. Unlike anyone or anything else in human history, Jesus alone can offer himself as the solution to the labor and burdens of our restless souls.
When Jesus says, "come to me," he is inviting us to trust in who he is and what he alone can provide. This invitation is where our tired and heavy-laden souls are tested before they can find rest. As Saint Augustine once said, "You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You." We often remain tired and restless until we know how our burdens will be resolved. Jesus may not always provide those details, but he does promise the regenerating rest we seek. So come to Jesus today, trust in his promises, and find soul rest from your labors. Jesus’ promise is a hammock of hope, encouraging us to remain faithful in our labor and seek rest in him. Happy Labor Day!
Onward and Upward+
