Who's Your Master?

Who’s Your Master?
Let’s admit it, few passages cause more discomfort for many Christians than this one. People want to serve God, but we also love money. We value what money provides, how it makes our lives more convenient, comfortable, and manageable. It doesn’t take much money to become its servant or even its slave. In fact, sometimes those with very little money are even more enslaved by it when the pursuit of acquiring more consumes their lives. Whether we are rich or poor, we can easily become enslaved to money or many other competing things.
Friends, most Christians I know try to serve two masters, be it God and money, God and golf, or God and gaming. If it’s not something you struggle with, then give praise to God! However, chances are you understand how it feels to want to serve God and something else at the same time. Thankfully, Jesus came to set the captives free, including those of us who struggle with captivity to various people, places, and things, and their consuming influence. If we recognize that we’re trying to serve two masters at one time, we can experience Jesus’ freedom by confessing to Him and asking for His help. The more we receive His grace, the freer we become to serve God with an undivided heart.
Onward and Upward +
