Our Soul Food
In John Chapter 6, Jesus miraculously fed the massive crowd with a few loaves of bread and a couple of fish. The crowd recognized a prophet like Moses had been raised up among them, and the next day, they continued to seek after Him, hoping to be fed once again. That’s when Jesus shocked them with the first of His seven “I am” statements by saying, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst” (John 6:35). The crowd was excited thinking He could take away their hunger and save them from starvation. They still hadn’t considered or processed the promise of eternal salvation through a nourished soul.
Friends, we live in a world of spiritually hungry people desperately searching for purpose and fulfillment. They try to fill that spiritual hunger with countless things that leave them hungry for more. Jesus wants to do more than fill us with daily bread and offer us earthly comfort. He wants to transform our hearts and nourish our souls. The Bread of Life that Jesus offers us is the only way to live a spiritually satisfied and fulfilled life that will endure through eternity. As His disciples, we must believe in Him, feed on Him, and be spiritually nourished by Him daily. As Jesus told Satan in the wilderness, “Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matt. 4.4). Jesus is our soul food that provides the fulfilling everlasting life we all hunger for.
Onward and Upward+
