Liberating Humility
Let’s be honest: most of us dislike self-promotion when we see it in others. Yet, we often find "reasons" to justify promoting ourselves. Jesus reminds us to abandon our self-promoting tendencies and instead embrace humility, trusting that God will do the exalting. It’s no surprise that the apostle Paul regarded Jesus as the perfect example of humility. After all, Jesus didn’t cling to his position but willingly emptied himself of self-promotion and obeyed God. That would lead to his exaltation at the right time.
Friends, pride is the deadliest of sins; it’s destructive, selfish, and harmful to both our witness and growth in faith. We must humble ourselves before God and others, trusting Him to honor us in His time. This verse, taken from the parable of the guests invited to the marriage feast, challenges us to examine our motives for seeking honor and recognition. We must remember that self-promotion often comes at the expense of others. Humility is the foundation of all virtues because it allows us to see and judge as God does. Liberating humility fosters knowledge, honesty, strength, and dedication to something greater than ourselves. Humility frees us to love and serve others for their sake, not for our own!
Onward and Upward+
